20 Feb Ministries
11And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherdsc and teachers,d 12to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood,e to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. Ephesians 4:11-16
18And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them inb the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
There are many Bible verses and sections of Scripture that describe the reasons and purpose for having ministries, and these are two of them.
As you pray today for “ministries” would you
- Pray for the leaders and all the volunteers serving in of those ministries. Idlewild has scores of ministries that exist to accomplish what the scriptures above exhort the Church to do. Pray that each person serving in all of these ministries is fully using the gifts given to them by God to equip believers, to encourage and care for one another, and to go find people who are not part of God’s family, those who are not saved.
- Hopefully you were one of the persons you prayed for because you are serving in a ministry at Idlewild. If not, pray that the reasons you are not serving will no longer be an obstacle preventing you from serving.
- Pray that every Idlewild member will believe that every member is a minister and therefore, when everyone serves, the “whole body builds itself up in love”.
- Pray that every ministry is a disciple making ministry. That every ministry and event would have a clear purpose to make disciples. That we have a church full of worshippers, prayer warriors, mentors, encouragers, soul winners, with everyone serving passionately in ministry and the evidence, the fruit, is the making of disciples!
