Proverbs 16
Financial Wisdom
Would it surprise you to learn that the Bible says a lot about money? From beginning to end, Genesis to Revelation, there are more than 2,350 verses on how to handle money. Many of the insights from God’s Word contain the principles for a solid, personal, financial foundation. I have personally found that Proverbs 16 has provided some wise financial instructions. May we always value wisdom and understanding as a treasured possession.
Proverbs 16:16 “How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver.”
Practical instructions:
Stick to the plan
Proverbs 16:3 “Commit your works to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”
We must believe that God wants to bless us; and until God individually convicts someone that His plan is otherwise, we are not to accept failure.
Follow God’s lead
Proverbs 16:9 “The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.”
Sometimes Christians seem to believe that God will bless them supernaturally, while they ignore every pretense of good money management. If you believe that, you haven’t studied God’s Word very thoroughly. God’s Word directs us to think and plan.
Choose contentment over envy
Proverbs 16:19 “It is better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.”
We are not to envy those who are storing up riches. Unfortunately, it is easy to fall into this trap. We begin to envy others and allow our lifestyles to be dictated by those around us.
Charge what is fair
Proverbs 16:8 “Better is a little with righteousness than great income with injustice.”
Should a Christian in business, whether offering a product or service, charge what the market will bear? Wouldn’t it be a testimony to the Lord and His people if Christians established prices and fees on the basis of what is fair both for them and their customers?
As we gain insight concerning our finances may we become living examples of God’s blessings, as we live according to His Word.
