| | | Welcome to Exciting Idlewild Baptist Church where we consider it a privilege and a direct call from God to reach out to the family with a disabled child. The Special Needs Ministry at Idlewild Baptist Church is dedicated to serving individuals of all ages with disabilities and their family. We recognize the value of each person regardless of their physical or mental disability. We provide a safe, loving, Christ-centered program for the special needs child or adult while parent(s) and siblings attend worship service, Bible Fellowship class or serve in the church. We are unable to accept any child or adult on a drop-in basis. All participants in the program will be required to complete a Participant Information Form and meet with the Special Needs Ministry Coordinator before attending the program. Buddy Break provides a safe place for VIPs and their siblings to have fun while their caregivers get a break. This program is for VIP children ages 2-16, and their siblings 4 years old through 5th grade. Click Here for more information on Buddy Break! We offer respite care Sunday for the 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. services; Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. and Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. Our adult class meets at 9:30 a.m. The class begins with a time of singing and class members accompany with rhythm instruments. After music, the class has a special time of prayer and praise. The class is then divided into two groups. Bible study is available for those who would like to participate in discussion of lessons designed specifically for special needs class members. Our other group is offered activities relevant to their ability while volunteers talk to and lovingly encourage the students. Players of all ages and abilities enjoy soccer and softball in a special ministry of the Idlewild Recreation Outreach. The "Challenged Champions" Division is open to players from the community as well as to church members. Bring a friend! Click here for more information! Click here for the registration form. The Special Needs Ministry is staffed by volunteers who have been a member of Idlewild Baptist Church for at least six months and have passed a background check. The volunteers receive training by the Ministry Coordinator prior to working with the children and training is provided throughout the year. Our volunteers are not trained in any type of therapy or specific medical care; therefore, we do not offer this assistance. We will make every effort to provide the best possible care for your child/adult. For more information about becoming a volunteer, please click here. Vibrating pagers are provided for all parents. Amplification devices are available for the hearing impaired at the Welcome Center in the Gatheria. Sign Language Interpretation is available at the 9:30 a.m. service and at select special events. |
