Special Needs Ministry Volunteer Information

At Exciting Idlewild Baptist Church we provide a safe, loving, Christ-centered program for children and adults with special needs.  We recognize the value of each person regardless of their physical or mental disability.  This ministry is dedicated to serving individuals of all ages with a disability and their family.  We believe that individuals with disabilities are precious gifts from God and are here specifically to teach us lessons that we might never learn on our own.  We consider it a privilege and a direct call from God to reach out to those who are disabled because this ministry represents the very heart of God.

Jesus repeatedly stopped what He was doing with the masses to meet the immediate need of an individual, often an individual with some type of disability.  Jesus valued all people.

Our goal is to communicate the love of Jesus to every participant in this ministry and to their family.

The Special Needs Ministry makes it possible for parents to worship together, attend a Bible Fellowship class or serve within the church while their child is safely cared for in our specially designed classrooms.

Programs

The Special Needs Ministry offers respite during regular worship services

  •      Sunday mornings at 9:30 and 11:00
  •      Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m.
  •      Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.

An adult Bible Fellowship class is held on Sunday morning at 9:30.

What experience is required?

A volunteer does not need prior experience working with people with special needs.  You will serve alongside volunteers who know the student well and you will learn by observing and interacting with them.  You are not required to provide any type of therapy or specific medical care.  If you are interested in volunteering, you are encouraged to observe the classrooms before you commit to becoming a volunteer.  Once you make a commitment, you will be asked to attend a training meeting.  Additional training meetings are periodically.

To Become a Volunteer

To become a volunteer, you are required to be a member of Idlewild Baptist Church for at least six months, submit an “Idlewild Baptist Church Background Check” and a “Volunteer Application” to the ministry coordinator.
