He is Life-Giver

Reading: Genesis 2:4-3:24

Eden! Humankind lived in the perfect place. The place was pleasing to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was in the garden. The people (man and woman) lived by streams and among the living creatures, naming the creatures of God. Man and woman were joined as one and no one felt shame.

But even in a beautiful garden, there can be a snake. The snake in Eden is the crafty beast, Satan, that opposes God. The man and woman had a choice to make. Would they believe God’s Word on what is best or would they listen to Satan, trust in their own reasoning instead of the revelation of God and ignore God?

God reveals that He still comes to those that ignore His Word. He longs for us to “walk” with Him. He delights in being with those created in His image.

God is holy and just. Ignoring the Creator disturbs our relationship with Him. The Lord God tells the man and woman the consequences of their rejection of God. To follow Satan is to believe lies. God is truth.

In the midst of being rejected by the man and the woman, God promised to overcome the Liar, Satan, through the Seed of the Woman. This Seed is a person, the Anticipated One. Because of this promise, Genesis 3:15-16, every genealogy in the Bible is precious. Because of this promise, all humankind has renewed hope. God forgives those who trust in His provision of Life.

Romans 16:20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
