11 Dec Anticipating the King – December 11, 2019
He is King
Reading: 1 Samuel 16:1-13
“1 Samuel 16:7 God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
The Israelites wanted a king to lead them, a king like the other nations had. God responded to their prayers by establishing a line of kings in Israel. We know from the historical accounts that the kings did not always represent God to the people. Many kings led the Israelites to idol worship and alliances with godless nations.
Regardless of what people think they need; God knows what people really need. God remembered His promise to provide a Redeemer for humankind. God remembered the promises He made regarding the seed line of the king. God remembered the emphasis He had placed on a heart steadfast for His glory.
When Samuel anointed the young lad David as King, God established that the character, the heart of His followers, matters. God’s Anointed One would come through the line of David and would demonstrate purity of heart, devotion to walking with God. Our anticipated King is from the line of Jesse, the line of David. This is why we anticipate a Davidic King for Christmas.
Acts 13:22 After He had removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My will.’
Seeing Advent as His child: We are blessed to have a King with great heart. May this heart ornament affirm His love for you.
