Anticipating the King – December 18, 2019

Reading: Isaiah 29:18-21; 53:3

The children that were designing the ornaments for this advent celebration had a lot of fun with this ornament on Healer. How would you depict The Healer? Would you draw a crutch with an “x” over it? Would you draw Christ Jesus in scrubs? Would you draw a person getting out of bed?

It was decided that The Healer should be symbolized by a really happy face for we all smile thinking of being or seeing a loved one healed. We cannot stop smiling. This ornament even gives a little wink. Everyone knows the frustration of physical limitations. For those that do not deal with chronic issues, the limitation oftentimes coincides with a special calendar event. It is just never ever convenient to be hurting. We smile over defeating suffering.

Christ was destined to heal. The prophets described Him as a compassionate healer. Messiah would bless those cast out of the community due to disease. Jesus would see the blind, the lame, the leprous, the issue of blood and in His temporary relief of pain would speak volumes regarding our ultimate healing in the kingdom to come. Praise God! Smile today thinking about how you and those you see hurting will be completely healed.

Matthew 11:4-6 Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and report to John what you hear and see: the blind receive sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. And blessed is he who does not take offense at Me.”
