The Greater Exodus

Reading: Exodus 2:1-10, 3:1-17

I’ve been watching my new grandson and thinking about babies in the Christmas story. So many miraculous little lives. The survival of a baby is dependent upon adults taking pity on the vulnerable and being trustworthy in caring for the baby. Moses and Christ Jesus were born into a culture actively murdering Hebrew baby boys. God orchestrated their survival.

It is hard work tending a baby, night time feedings and many diaper changes… continually. Good parents demonstrate the sacrificial love of God. The hope of every good parent is to raise a child that will represent the family name well by walking in truth, blessing many. Being a blessing unites us in peaceful joy. Moses is known as a deliverer, the leader of the exodus, the representative of the Covenant Blesser. Through Moses, God reveals He will faithfully show mercy on captive Israel. Israel’s exodus out of Egypt blessed all nations with a knowledge of the great I Am. The exodus of Israel equipped the people for proclaiming the goodness of God.

Today, all nations have Good News to proclaim. God promises an even greater exodus than the one led by Moses when God delivers all nations from bondage to sin through forgiveness in His Son, the Deliverer, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Acts 7:35 This Moses whom they disowned, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ is the one whom God sent to be both a ruler and a deliverer with the help of the angel who appeared to him in the thorn bush.

Romans 11:26 …and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”

Seeing Advent as His child: Are you directionaly challenged? My assistant Diane says she is and sometimes I have to help her just to find her way in our large church and back stairways. No worries though for His children as God Himself leads us in the Greater Exodus. The burning bush lit a path for Moses and teaches us that God will make a way for all.
