A recent email to Pastor Ray Sanabria from one of the Bolivia team members.

Dear Pastor Ray,

I would like to take a moment to say thank you for allowing me the opportunity to join the Bolivia mission team last month. I am only 13 years old and it was an extreme privilege to experience this trip. I know without a shadow of a doubt that God knew what He was doing when He placed the eleven of us individuals together on this team. Throughout the eight days of bonding, I noticed how our team felt very comfortable with each other, and God seemed to mold our personalities very well.

Early this year I received an invitation from Mr. Ken Jordan asking me to join the Bolivia mission team in September. He thought it would be a great experience for me to meet the Flook family, their children, and serve with them, and indeed he was right.

I have several testimonies I would love to share, but I will just take the time to share one in this email. Prior to leaving we were assigned our responsibilities for the VBS. Although I was looking forward to doing sports, I was assigned crafts instead. I wasn’t very excited with that plan, because sitting in one confined area with lots of kids didn’t sound pleasing. To my surprise, everything unfolded and I was placed right where I was needed to be.

On day one of VBS I gave presented the creation story and sure enough God had begun to change my attitude and thinking and by the time day two started I was pumped up and couldn’t wait to see the kids.

When day three of VBS rolled around we would be sharing the Gospel. This was going to be a big opportunity for the team because we wanted to impact the lives of these children and explain the Gospel in a way that they would understand.

The craft for that day was a poster which was very time consuming. It also came with a bonus….kids with runny noses, dirty feet, etc. We were feeling a bit discouraged, due to the fact that our bodies were aching and we were extremely tired.

The third group of kids coming to us was all boys, and they were running late. We were thankful for that because we had more time to prepare and it was a blessing because we noticed they were late because Mrs. Flook was sharing Jesus with them. We were so thankful because we realized that in return for our dedication to these kids, God allowed the “Bible Time Group” to plant a seed, and for Mrs. Flook to water the seed further. It was a highlight of my trip because this was the moment that could change their lives forever. After their discussion with Mrs. Flook, the boys came over with extreme enthusiasm. A total of nine boys from that group had accepted Christ as their Savior. “WOW,” was our new motto for our mission trip, and it said it all.

Most of the small community of Cotoca joined us on the fifth night along with Marantha Bautista Iglesia for a night of worship. This is a church that was formed with the help of Idlewild. We shared in worship, testimonies, sharing the gospel and some homemade Bolivian food. (Bolivian food is just….WOW!) We were amazed at the 70+ souls that were dedicated to Christ that night.

Through this truly incredible trip, I have learned to be grateful for my family, house and country. The experience in the streets, markets and communities were touching and give me a greater desire to share the Gospel no matter where I am.

I am greatly looking forward to joining Idlewild in South America again…. and BEYOND! Once again, thank you for allowing me this opportunity.

With Thanks,
Dana Barone
