Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 10

Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 10

Emmanuel

In 2019, my first grandchild was born. His name is Hunter, but I do not typically get asked what his name is. Instead, people ask me what he will call me. At first, I found this question funny. It’s been over a year and all he says is hi, dog, dad, mama, and a few other things I cannot identify. There was no rush to name me.

I know this obsession with naming has to do with women having fun with a nickname for grandma. Maybe people are looking for a fresh moniker as Gigi, Memaw, Grammy, Grandmother are so frequently used. My family always just said Grandma and then the first or last name of the particular Grandma. Hunter’s parents call me Grandma Jojo so I imagine Hunter will one day pick that up. We just aren’t there yet. All I know is that I want Hunter to enjoy my presence. I want his name for me to be dear to him when he hears it. I want it to be a name he will know me by.

All humankind longs to know their Maker. We long for His presence, to be known by Him. We want intimate communication with our Savior. We want to be close family. I am thankful that God reveals Himself in many names but “God with us” is the name that is the greatest joy to me.

Matthew 1:23 Behold, the virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and they shall name Him Emmanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”
