10 Dec Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 11
Everlasting Father
Isaiah 9:6 For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
We will focus on Isaiah 9:6 numerous times through the celebration of Advent. This passage is where Isaiah receives a revelation of God’s provision of a Savior in the midst of a message on God’s judgment of Israel for their arrogance and rejection of God. We see the contrast between God’s character and Israel who were to represent Him. God gifts a leader, a holy leader, to a people of unholiness.
Everlasting Father emphasizes the permanence of our relationship with God. For all that cling to Him, there is an eternal bond with the Good Father. We are secure. What a great gift, especially in light of how most gifts are so temporal. I have broken things while unwrapping them. We celebrate with poppers on Christmas Eve. Giving a popper with every win as we play games. Poppers last only for a second and then are sent to the trash pile. We enjoy the jokes inside the poppers but once shared they are done. So much of our celebration ends in the trash within hours of Christmas day; packaging, ribbons, bows, the leftover meal… He is our Everlasting Father.
I like a gift that lasts through the ages. I love a gift that secures me in His care.
