16 Dec Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 17
Horn of Salvation
“Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, for He has visited us and accomplished redemption for His people, and has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David—…” Luke 1:68-69
Zechariah was in the midst of doing his priestly duties when he questioned God’s messenger and message. I relate to this. Sometimes I’m so busy doing “ministry”, I question God being in the midst of our lives. Gabriel silences Zechariah. When Zechariah finally got his voice back, he praised God knowing that God hadn’t abandoned His caring for the people, the Redeemer was on His way. God remembered His promise of a Deliverer and was raising up a horn of salvation. Zechariah knew the people could be saved!
When we read Luke 1 and 2 at Christmas to our families, we connect His promises of a Redeemer through the centuries. In Zechariah’s praise we read:
God is with us – He has visited us
God has accomplished redemption for us
God has provided salvation through the house of David
God has fulfilled the words of the ancient prophets
God has delivered us from our enemies that would destroy us
God has remembered His holy covenant
God has remembered His promises to Abraham
God has provided holiness and righteousness for those that would believe in Him
God has provided our peace
We join Zechariah with our voices as we reflect on God’s great gift of salvation. Christmas can end our silence. It’s a time to joyfully raise our voice!
