Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 22

Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 22

Lord of All

There were race riots this year in Tampa. There were race riots in many places across our nation. I think riots are partly the result of pent-up anger, a sense of not being heard, a realization of oppression.

Because of the race riots, I got more intentional about listening, particularly to minorities. I learned that I was ignorant of some of the discrimination my friends were experiencing. I learned that unity may not even be skin deep.

I went to the Scriptures in my grief over the hurting. I went to the Scriptures to find out why the race-based discussions were so hard, so uncomfortable for many including some very mature believers. I went to the Scriptures to hear God’s heart in the matter.

I discovered that much of the teaching in the epistles, so many of the exhortations, had to do with the need for reconciliation. How would the early church leaders unite the Jews and Gentiles, men and women, slave and free, oppressed and oppressor to form one Body representative of one God? There were so many prejudices. There are so many passages about favoritism and partiality. The Lord of All is fair. Our injustices must be overcome for His Body to unite and reflect Him well.

Christ Jesus prayed for unity prior to His arrest. I thought about how key unity is when you are establishing one kingdom. As we gather this Christmas, may we bring our diverse giftings and ways together for His praise.

Acts 10:34-37 Opening his mouth, Peter said: “I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality, but in every nation the one who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him. The word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all)— …”
