Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 24

Prince of Peace

Peace, victory, and rest go together. When our enemies are defeated, we have peace if we are also at rest with our Maker. To defeat enemies and to align with God, we take refuge in the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the Mediator that provides His followers the victory of peace.

Proverbs 12:20 says “Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, but counselors of peace have joy.”

John 14:7 encourages “Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful.”

John 16:33 reminds us “These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation but take courage; I have overcome the world.”

So often Christ would greet people by saying “Peace be to you.” He is the leader in peace, the ultimate Peacemaker.

At Christmas time, we sometimes read or watch Dickens’ Christmas Carol. In this tale, Scrooge states, “Leave me in peace!” Scrooge banged the window shut. “Merry Christmas, indeed,” he muttered. “What do they have to be merry about?” He believed that peace is having unshared riches and time alone with his porridge. God places His image on people and sets His great plan in place to redeem the enslaved sinner by His love. Riches are in receiving an inheritance as His child. That inheritance includes peace.

We may be concerned about a happy Christmas for our family and friends. We may be harried by the list of to-dos. We may be hungry for some alone time. Whatever our current state of mind, rest your weary head knowing the Prince of Peace chooses to be with you.

Isaiah 9:6 For a Child will be born to us, a Son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
