Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 3

Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 3

Ancient of Days

When I turn to Psalm 90, I read the title of the section Psalm 90 is in the Psalms: Book 4, God’s eternity and the brevity of human life. Maybe this is why in God’s Word there are commands to stop and celebrate. We forget that our days on this earth, His great creation, are brief. God wants us to enjoy His creation and one another. The Ancient of Days doesn’t rush. I need to be reminded to stop rushing as rushing hinders worship. Worship of the Ancient of Days strengthens our heart. He is faithful from everlasting to everlasting. There is no greater comfort to this mortal body.

I remember having a 16-year-old babysitter when we lived in Iowa. I was relieved that my parents wouldn’t leave their three, sometimes unruly (due to my brothers), children alone. We might have killed each other. I was thankful that my parents would pay big bucks and get professional, elderly help. Years later, I thought back to that moment and realized my parents must have really needed a night out to let a 16-year-old be over their home and precious children. I questioned my parent’s wisdom.

Age and maturity are complex topics.

The Ancient of Days knows humankind well. He’s got years of experience, generational knowledge. He is the One Who gave birth to the earth and the world. He has been gracious through much bedlam. He knows the frailty of humankind. He delights in our moments walking together.

As we walk this earth with friends and family, may we share the joy of their presence and the value of celebratory worship. Teach us to number our days that we may present to You, the Ancient of Days, a heart of wisdom.

Psalm 90:1-2 Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
