Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 6

Celebrating The Everlasting King – Day 6

When I first became aware of Psalm 2, I was fascinated by God’s understanding of people, our vain plotting and the provision of His Son in providing refuge. The Psalm helped the entire Biblical story come into clearer focus for me. It even conveys the emotional angst of God. I appreciated Him revealing “But as for Me…” I appreciated reading about His just, righteous, redeeming love. He makes it very clear. We are to align with His Son; kiss the Son to have life (not perish on the way).

Christmas is the celebration of this Son, this Christ, this Anointed One coming to earth as described in many of the Psalms. My responsibility as the created image of God is to respond to His revelation of Himself, to be teachable and with reverence take refuge in the Savior.

Christ is really more a title than a name. When we refer to Jesus as “Jesus Christ” we are acknowledging that He is the Messiah, the Chosen One. The apostle Peter makes a glorious confession that Jesus is the Christ when Jesus asked the disciples who they thought He was. In Matthew 26:63, we see that the high priest is wanting to know if Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. The implications of Jesus the Christ are eternal.

The term “Christ” is a New Testament term, it is Greek. The link to the Old Testament is in the Anointed One or Messiah. There are many New Testament references that attest to Jesus as Christ. His ministry begins with an anointing of the Holy Spirit just as a king in the Old Testament would have been anointed for service with oil and in some cases the Spirit. The Christ is recognized by God as His chosen representative. In Romans, Paul uses the term more than any other New Testament writer as Paul purposes to unite Jew and Gentile into One Body, the church, under the authority of the Christ.

We celebrate the refuge provided in the Christ. We are delivered from our bondage to sin and set free, under His name, to walk in Christlikeness. That is a gift worth sharing…

Romans 8:1 Therefore there is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus.
