Cooperating with the Holy Spirit in Sanctification and Prayer

Cooperating with the Holy Spirit in Sanctification and Prayer

As we prepare our hearts for 21 Days of Prayer January 9-29 and the Revival services that follow January 30-February 2, let’s consider the following relational responses to a believer’s position in Christ Jesus. These responses are inseparable. They are essential to a believer’s relationship with Jesus including his prayer life, his worship, his mindset, his maturity and his walk of obedience. Begin 2022 by letting the Word of Christ dwell in you richly or abundantly. Being filled with the Word of God, being filled with the Holy Spirit and Praying in the Spirit all support each other and are crucial to your fellowship and growth in your relationship with the Savior as led by the Holy Spirit.

Interwoven and Imperative Responses

  2. Be filled with the Holy Spirit Ephesians 5:18 – Be continually filled. We are not filled with sin and the Holy Spirit at the same time. Be yielded to the Holy Spirit.
  3. Renew the mind Colossians 3:10, Romans 12:2 and 2 Cor. 3:18 – Be transformed from the inside out by adjusting your thinking to the Word and the Holy Spirit.
  4. Have the mind of Christ 1 Corinthians 2:10-16 – The Spirit of God speaks the thoughts of God from the Word of God to the People of God. Can I have God’s brain in my head?
  5. Live in accordance with the Spirit Romans 8:5 – Have mind set on what the Spirit desires.
  6. Pray in the Spirit 6:18, Jude 20 – Pray in obedience and in agreement with the Word and character of God. Pray being filled, led, and strengthened by the Holy Spirit.
  7. Pray as Abiding in the Word and in Christ John 15:7 – Prayers are answered.
  8. Walk in the Spirit/Live in the Spirit/Keep in step with the Spirit Galatians 5:16, 25 – Obedience in the Holy Spirit. Be yielded to the Holy Spirit
  9. Worship in Spirit and Truth John 4:23, Jude 20 – Includes above responses and more. The Word of God and the Holy Spirit are crucial to true worship and prayer.

I have seen that those whose prayers are most saturated with Scripture are generally most fervent and most effective in prayer.” – John Piper

May the Holy Spirit move freshly among us and lift up Christ Jesus in truth as we pray in January.
