“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son.” – Colossians 1:13

Most of us are well aware of what God has saved us from. This passage specifically reminds us of this, telling us that we have been rescued from the domain of darkness and subsequently everything which is affiliated with darkness. The work of Jesus saves us from our sin and its consequences both now and for eternity. God saves us from the wrath that we deserve because of our rebellion against him.

We are well aware of what we are saved from. But my question for us is this: are we just as aware of what we have been saved for?

This text also tells us that we have been transferred into a kingdom. We have not just been saved from the domain of darkness but for a kingdom. This is important for us to understand because it makes the work of Jesus applicable to our everyday life. We are not just saved from our sin and an eternity without God, but for a life in God’s kingdom right here and right now.

This places the implications of the gospel in front of us today. The good news of Jesus is not just the starting point of our relationship with God. Instead, it is the entirety of our relationship with the Father because the gospel is news that God has made a way through Christ for us to be rescued from a life of darkness and for a life in the kingdom of God.
