Prayer & Fasting

“You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you
Because he trusts in you.”
Isaiah 26:3

We all recall the story in Matthew about Peter stepping out of the boat to walk on the water toward Jesus. As soon as he takes his eyes off Jesus, what happens? He begins to sink. Who wants to sink? Peter didn’t. I certainly don’t. It’s a pretty sure thing that no one wants to do that, yet we do take our eyes off Jesus. I don’t want to and I am sure you do not want to either. How can we keep our eyes on Jesus?

In our verse for today, it’s says the Lord keeps us in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him. So it’s about our minds. What we think and where we focus our minds has everything to do with keeping our eyes on Jesus. What do I think about? Where does my mind dwell and what things occupy my mind? These are critical questions if we desire peace. Isaiah tells us to keep our minds focused on the Lord and He keeps us in peace.

What a beautiful truth!

The final part of this verse is really the foundation of it all, which says we can have peace because we trust in Him. In Proverbs 3 we are told to “trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding” and in Jeremiah 17, “blessed is the man whose trust is in the Lord.” It all begins with trust.

Trust in the Lord + A mind stayed on the Lord = Perfect Peace

May the Lord bless you with perfect peace as you fix your mind on Jesus today.
