Daily Living – Episode 24 – Sheila Goskie

Read Psalm 8:2

“Through the praise of children and infants, You have established a stronghold against Your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger” (NIV)

Sometimes as adults we forget how important children are to God, as exemplified by Scripture (this verse as well as others) and Jesus’ ministry on earth.
God doesn’t just encourage children to worship & praise but actually says that He works through their praise to fight battles!

While there are many ways to worship & praise the Lord, I would like for you to consider how important SINGING His praise is – even if it’s just a “joyful noise.” Scripture tells us over and over again that singing is an important part of our worship & praise! We are even told in Zephaniah 3:17 that God sings over us. What a rich picture of God’s love for us! As we practice singing His praise, it becomes a natural response to God for who He is and what He’s done. Children need to see important adults in their lives singing & worshiping. Sing with your children at night as a response to something that happens, etc. Children need those examples.

I want us to be challenged, as a part of Idlewild and as we live out the Mission, that we teach our children the Bible through song and teach theological truth through hymns. Dave Ray with Doorpost Songs says, “Discipleship and worship are truly inseparable. Discipleship without worship is behavior modification. Worship without discipleship is emotional manipulation. Neither on their own will create lasting faith in a child’s heart, a faith that will survive the transition to adulthood and the many struggles and storms that lurk on the horizon.” I encourage you to worship & sing along with this favorite worship song (alone or with your kids) :
