Daily Living – Episode 27 – Reno Zunz

“But you are A CHOSEN RACE, A royal PRIESTHOOD, A HOLY NATION, A PEOPLE FOR God’s OWN POSSESSION, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light…” 1 Peter 2:9

Today we are looking at the second of our Idlewild Measures which is the word Identity. Our Measures give us a plumb line so that we can clearly evaluate how well we are living out the Mission. The first 3 of these “6 Gospel Dailies” are words describing how God is working in our lives. For our word Identity we ask the question, “Do I see myself as God sees me?”

Peter begins his letter, addressed to believers who have been scattered throughout Asia Minor(and today throughout the world), by acknowledging that they(we) are just passing through this world temporarily on our way to our permanent Home in Heaven. We are refugees, pilgrims, aliens…

In chapter 2, Peter speaks of believers as “living stones”(quite an oxymoron) and summarizes in verse 9 our Identity in Christ. Because of this, our Identity, we are called to do 2 things: First, we are to proclaim, announce, advertise His Glory and Excellence. We are called to be people of praise! And secondly(verses 11-12) we are called to live holy lives, and to practice what we believe every day. It has been said, “We practice what we believe, all the rest is just religious talk.”

The writer of Hebrews says it this way in chapter 13, verses 15 and 16:
Through Him(Jesus) then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His Name. And do not neglect doing good and sharing; for with such sacrifices God is pleased.

That my friends is our Identity in Christ!
