Can I See Your ID?

Author: Deana Troyer

Read: Colossians 3:12

There are dozens of different lenses through which we can see ourselves and thereby identify ourselves. Jobs, grades, social status, family dynamics all contribute to our sense of identity. Whether it’s the condition of our body or our brain, our car or our kitchen, our watch or our wardrobe, there’s all sorts of comparisons that we can make. And comparisons always have winners and losers.

But who is really to judge? How do I truly identify myself?

God is the only one qualified to say who we really are and He has used a lot of words in Scripture to communicate His heart toward us. As believers, followers of Christ, we are:

  • Chosen, Holy and Dearly Loved (Col. 3:12)
  • Justified and Redeemed (Rom. 5:1)
  • A New Creation (2 Cor. 5:17)
  • A Child of God (John 1:12)
  • Forgiven (Col. 1:14)
  • No Longer a Slave to Sin (Rom. 6:6)
  • Holy and Blameless (Eph. 1:4)
  • A Friend of Jesus (John 15:15)
  • Secure in His Grip (John 10:28)
  • Free from Condemnation (Rom. 8:1)
  • God’s Workmanship Created for Purposeful Service (Eph. 2:10)
  • A Branch of the True Vine (John 15:1, 5)

In the Special Needs Ministry, we use lots of garden imagery. Like a fruitful vine, as you live in your true God-given identity, you will BLOOM!
