Daily Living Devotional – GENEROSITY: Do I live with open hands

Author: Ken Smith

Welcome to the Idlewild Daily Living Devotion. I am Pastor Ken Smith and today we look at our 6th measure – Generosity: Do I live with open hands?

Our recent Daily Living devotions have focused on the Measures of our church mission.

The first three of our six Measures are what we would describe as LIVING IN the rescuing power, and the last three would be LIVING OUT the rescuing power.

Much like Jesus proclamation on the temple mount at the feast of the harvest when he said …

“On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38Whoever believes in me, asf the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” (John Chapter 7;37-38)

We drink Him in …. So that He can flow out of us.

Much like our six measures….

  • Living IN…. We drink Jesus in by …
    • Celebrating our Forgiveness
    • By our Identity…seeing ourselves the way God sees us …. And by….
    • Treasuring time being in His Presence

He flows in us so that by living in His recuing power we are transformed and equipped be agents and vessels used to further the Gospel and impact the lives of others. Jesus lives in us so that He can flow out of us!

  • Living OUT…. You will find that living IN the rescuing power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, your heart and mind will see the world more and more the way Jesus sees the world
    • The eyes of our hearts will be more aware of so many people around us who are far from God in need of being rescued
    • We will see people who need discipled and mentored to see the world and live life just as Jesus would

And this sixth measure, living life with open hands, becomes not something we do…. but literally, spiritually, and supernaturally who we are…Jesus life flows out of us in a life of generosity!

Paul described this generous life in 2nd Corinthians 8:2 1We want you to know, brothers,a about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.

My prayer is that each of us will experience the “abundance of joy” as we live IN the rescuing power of Jesus… that our lives will overflow with a wealth of generosity…as we live OUT the Gospel with open hearts and open hands!
