Generosity Testimony

Author: John Campbell

READ 2 Corinthians 9:11-13

Hi Idlewild! I’m John Campbell, the volunteer Executive Director of the Idlewild Foundation. I want to help you answer for yourselves the question that is Idlewild’s sixth measure, Do I live with open hands? Our mission at the Idlewild Foundation is to motivate, educate, and facilitate Godly stewardship. Godly stewardship includes radical generosity! This is the kind of generosity God demonstrated when He gave us His Son Jesus and the kind of generosity Jesus demonstrated when He opened His hands on the cross for you and me.

Our scripture focus for today is 2 Corinthians 9:11-13. God told us to be generous in those three verses far better than I could ever say it myself. Notice verse 11, a great word from God stating that you have what you have so that you can glorify God by being generous with it. And when are you supposed to be generous? On every occasion.

In verse 12 we see that this service that you perform is not only supplying the needs for the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Did you catch the word service in verse 12? It isn’t just your money. Generosity does include your service but true generosity is so much more than just money. You give your life. Verse 12 tells us that by serving others, you help them, and again you glorify God.

Then we close with verse 13. Paul states that generosity is about the gospel! Your giving is a visible, solid testimony of your love for Jesus through your obedience and again, it brings glory to God! So, are you living with open hands today?
