Daily Living – Episode 5 – Jacob Martin

READ Romans 8:15

Hello Idlewild Family! My name is Jacob Martin and I am the Lead Director of the Recreation Outreach Ministry at Idlewild. Today, we are going to be wrapping up our first week in the Daily Living devotionals by continuing to look at the first three words of our mission statement: Giving ourselves daily.

We will be looking at Romans 8:15, where Paul writes about “receiving the Spirit of adoption” when we became Christians. God has given my wife, Mallory, and I many opportunities to interact and serve in the orphan community, such as mission trips to orphanages in Africa, mentoring children who live in a group home, or reading to kids at the Children’s Home, just to name a few. While we may have walked into those opportunities because it is what God has commanded us to do throughout Scripture (James 1:27; Isaiah 1:17), we walked out of them blessed by these children’ hearts and saddened by the trauma that they have been forced to endure. But we knew that God had placed adoption and foster care on our hearts and we wanted to get more involved. We walked through the adoption and foster care process for a few years before adopting our daughter from the foster care system in August of 2017. When people ask us why we chose to adopt, our answer is pretty simple, because it is a representation of what Christ has done for each and every one of us (Ephesians 1:5).

My prayer for each of you is that this short blog encourages you to get involved in a ministry that allows you to give yourself daily, whether that be as a mentor through Hope for the Orphan, or a Coach in our Recreation Ministry. I pray that you are open to all that God has in store for you when we “Give Ourselves Daily.”
