Prayer and The Holy Spirit

Author: Pastor Wade Griffin

Romans 8:26

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”

Our verse  today deals with three spiritual topics with which many of us are not that comfortable; the Holy Spirit, prayer and our weaknesses.  It shouldn’t be a surprise that these three intersect.  Our spiritual journey begins with the Holy Spirit convicting us (John 16:8,9) of our sins (Romans 3:23) resulting in a prayer of confession and belief (Romans 10:9,10).

Isn’t it encouraging that the Holy Spirit is interceding on our behalf?  As we consider our mission to help each one live in the rescuing power, in the middle of a global pandemic, how do we do that?  Not in our strength.  It is only as we allow the Holy Spirit to work through us that we have true power to live out this mission that God has given each of us in the Great Commission (Matt 28:19-20).  How do we access that incredible power?  Prayer.

It is an amazing thought that God desires to have a relationship with us.  The 2nd devotion in our 21 Days of Prayer makes an incredible point regarding Heaven.  We are going to spend eternity in God’s presence where it will be clear that He is worthy of our praise and worship.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to wait until that day.  Let’s come to Him today – in the Power of the Holy Spirit, overcoming our weaknesses to offer Him our praise and worship.
