Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

HOW DO YOU COMMUNICATE WITH PARENTS?

We send a weekly email to all families. This email looks different depending on the week, but
our hope is for it to contain a Wednesday PM recap with family follow-up questions, upcoming
events / dates to be aware of, contact info for our staff, parent resources, and other helpful
information.

OUR FAMILY ISN’T RECEIVING INFORMATION. HOW DO WE GET ADDED TO THE EMAIL

LIST?

If you are not receiving weekly communication via email, please contact Dilyne Gwinn at
dgwinn@idlewild.org. It is also possible that you have unsubscribed from our emails. If you feel
that this is the case, please let us know, and we will make sure to add you again.

IF I’M LOOKING FOR INFORMATION, WHERE SHOULD I GO?

Our hope is that all the information that you need is being delivered directly to your email inbox.
However, we also want to make sure that if you go looking for information, you are able to find it
with ease.

We would encourage you to visit www.idlewildstudents.com. Our website is the hub for all
Student Ministry info regarding our mission and vision, events, weekly programming, missions
opportunities, staff contact info, service opportunities, and podcast subscription.
Click on the appropriate ministry (middle school or high school) to find information specific to the
ministry your child is involved in, or click on the “Parents” tab to view material specifically
devoted to and designed for parents.

DOES OUR FAMILY NEED SOCIAL MEDIA TO STAY INFORMED AND CONNECTED?

Not at all. Our desire is not to promote or encourage students or families to sign-up for /
download social media.

In the world we live in, social media is a platform that continues to grow in audience size and
engagement. So, we leverage technology and use social media as a resource for information,
promotion and celebration.

However, social media is NOT needed to stay informed about all that is going on in
Student Ministry. Our weekly emails and website will give you all the information you need.
If you are on social media, and would like to stay connected through this medium, follow us on
Instagram and like us on Facebook.

WHY DO STUDENT SERVICES END LATER THAN THE ADULT WORSHIP SERVICE?

We have intentionally designed our service to release later than the adult service. We do this so
that when we release, students aren’t roaming the halls of the church unattended. We also
release later so that it allows parents / guardians a chance to exit the worship center, briefly
catch up with friends or family, pick up other children if needed, and walk down to the student
building. Student services end at 7:45pm.

IF MY STUDENT IS NEW ON A WEDNESDAY NIGHT, WHERE DO WE GO?

First of all – thank you for considering a visit to Middle School and High School large groups in
the near future.

When you arrive on campus, follow the signs that direct you to the “Student Building”. Once
inside the Student Building, the Middle School Ministry meets in Hall One (downstairs). The
High School Ministry meets in Hall Two (upstairs). Once in the appropriate location, you will find
a “Welcome Table”. Check in here with the Guest Coordinator. They will introduce you to the
Middle School / High School Pastor, and well as introduce your child to other students in the
same grade. Our goal is to ensure that you and your student have a great first experience on
Wednesday night. And as always, parents are welcome to join us!

ARE ALL OF YOUR STUDENT MINISTRY VOLUNTEERS BACKGROUND CHECKED?

Yes. The safety of each student is of the utmost importance to us. Every leader you see in our
area – whether that is a college age volunteer, or a Sunday AM small group leader – each has
been background checked and has also completed our Ministry Safe training.

CAN I LISTEN TO YOUR SERMONS FROM WEDNESDAY NIGHTS?

Yes. And we would love for you to do so! Feel free to sit in on a Wednesday Night Service, or
we have a podcast that is uploaded weekly. You can find us on Apple Podcasts and on Spotify.

Feel free to listen to what your students are hearing, and use the follow-up questions in our weekly emails to continue the
conversation at home with your students.

WHAT IF MY STUDENT HAS A SPECIAL NEED OR DISABILITY? CAN MY STUDENT JOIN

YOU FOR WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY MORNING PROGRAMMING?

Yes – absolutely! We want your students to be as comfortable as they can be in our weekly
gatherings. We currently have several special needs students that currently attend our weekly
programming. If this applies to you, we would love to have a conversation with you about the
specific needs of your student, and how we can come alongside you to help accommodate and
acclimate them to our area.

WHAT KIND OF CONTENT WILL MY MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT HEAR ON SUNDAY

MORNINGS OR WEDNESDAY EVENINGS?

We understand that the nature of middle school ministry is unique. Your students are walking
through a lot of changes, and you are navigating those waters as a parent. We also understand
that YOU are the primary discipler of your kids. We want to come alongside you to reinforce
what you are already instilling in your home. We want the Bible to serve as our guide as we
elevate the name of Jesus with this age group. Our desire is to never expose your student to a
topic / subject if you haven’t had the chance to have those conversations as a parent first. If at
any point we feel we need to address a biblical topic that requires sensitivity, we will inform
parents of that topic prior to that study. As a parent, you should be able to decide what your
student will be studying, even as it pertains to the contents of scripture.
