Here Am I… Send Her

Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “ Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us? Then I said, “ Here am I. Send Me.” (Isaiah 6:8 NKJV)

Isaiah 6 details Isaiah’s call from God to be a prophet. Taking a page from his own spiritual autobiography, the prophet tells how he came to be God’s spokesman. To be on mission with God demands a call. God is still calling men, women, boys, and girls to go to the uttermost. He is still calling preachers, missionaries, men, and women into ministry. But somehow I think we still have the idea if we can just show you enough pictures, and tell you enough stories about missionaries, and the hurting, the broken, and the lost world, we can put God’s burden on your heart, and you will finally raise the white flag and exclaim, “ OK, I’ll go, I’ll give, and I’ll grieve.” I can still hear it now..” Pastor, it wasn’t until I saw those orphans, those AIDs victims, those babies with flies on them, that I said, “Here am I.. Send Me.”

But this is not how it happened with Isaiah. He joins the ranks of others who heard God’s call, but only after seeing God’s character.

Moses… saw a burning bush and heard a voice say, “Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” ( Exodus 3:5 )

Jacob...”I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies… which you have shown your servant.” (Genesis 32:10 ). He saw the Lord.

Job… “I have heard… You… now my eyes see You.” What was Job’s reaction? “ I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.” ( Job 42: 5-6 )

Simon Peter… “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man.” That is always the reaction when we see His holiness. Then Jesus tells him. “You will catch men.” ( Luke 5:8-9 )

When Isaiah saw God’s deity, he saw his own depravity. It was then that he saw his own duty. His own reply was, “Here Am I, Send Me.” Would you ask Father God today if there is somewhere He desires to send you? Maybe it’s across the sea, or maybe it’s across the street. Could it be today after seeing Him in the Word, God desires to send you on His behalf to be His witness and His missionary? Isaiah caught a vision and said, “Woe is me!” (Isa. 6:5). He considered God’s vision and said, “ I’ll go.” That is the sequence, is it not? Woe.. Lo.. Go…May we have that same spirit of obedience this day. When we gaze, we will go. When we see, we will feel sent. Let’s see His face, hear His voice, and use our feet to go in Jesus’ name.
