How to Stay Connected – Coronavirus Update

How to Stay Connected – Coronavirus Update

Good afternoon Parents,

We hope you and your family are holding up well amidst the chaos and confusion associated with the Coronavirus. We want you to know that we are praying for you and your students as you navigate this season.

We also wanted to reach out to make sure you and your family know how to stay connected with us in the days ahead. As a church and as a student ministry staff, we are learning so much right now about what ministry looks like in this new context. And while we may not have answers to everything right now, one thing we DO KNOW is that we still want to love on and care for each student entrusted to us.

In the weeks ahead, our team will be sending you weekly email updates. In each email we hope to include:

  • Updates on church activities / programs
  • Ways for your students to continue growing their relationship with Jesus
  • Opportunities to connect with the student staff
  • Methods for students to connect with leaders / other students

UPDATES ON CHURCH ACTIVITIES

In an effort to comply with Local Government and CDC recommendations, and a desire to make sure our church family stays safe and well, all “in-person” student ministry activities have been suspended.

At this point, these programs would include:

  • Wednesday Night services
  • Sunday morning small groups
  • High School Dodgeball Tournament

Updates on Camp Idlewild

Many of you have had questions about the status of Camp Idlewild. At this point in time, Camp Idlewild is still on our calendar. Our student team is taking it week by week, allowing each bit of new information to inform our decisions. We want to be wise as we proceed, and we will keep you in the loop regularly.

WAYS FOR STUDENTS TO GROW THEIR RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS

Even though we are practicing “social distancing”, and in person gatherings have been suspended, our student team wants to make sure your student is continuing to grow in their relationship with Jesus. Here are some very practical things available for them to engage with…

  • Sunday Morning Services – We would encourage you and your family to tune in at 9:15 or 11am for church. Pastor Ken and the worship team will be continuing to lead us through our series, “Life in a Minor Key.”
  • Wednesday Night Service – Wednesday nights are designed with the whole family in mind. Each Wednesday one of our student pastors will be team teaching with Pastor Ken through a series called, “Know Fear”. At the end of the service, we would encourage your family to get together and walk through the guided discussion questions with our service hosts.
  • Weekly Small Group Connection – Each week your student’s small group leader will be reaching out. Some leaders may use Zoom, others may use FaceTime, or some leaders may connect via text. The goal is for your student to feel loved on and cared for. These interactions will also include guided discussion from Wednesday Night’s message.
  • Weekly Zoom Discipleship – Each week we will be hosting digital discipleship meetings for our guys and girls. They will be split by gender and by ministry (ie: High School Girls, High School Guys, Middle School Girls, Middle School Guys). The meeting will be roughly 30 minutes, and will walk students through a passage of scripture. The zoom schedule is below. We will be sending specific Zoom Meeting ID’s next week.

Group Day Time
MS Girls Thursdays 6:30p
HS Girls Thursdays 8:00p
MS Boys Tuesdays 6:30p
HS Boys Tuesdays 8:00p

  • Daily Devotionals – Our church will be releasing daily devotions for the next 21 days. We would encourage your student to watch the video, read the corresponding chapter, and take notes.

**Zoom is an app like FaceTime that allows more people to meet at once. For more questions about Zoom, please see the attached document.

OPPORTUNITIES TO CONNECT WITH THE STUDENT STAFF

Over the next several weeks, our Student Team will be reaching out to students in our ministry. We will be calling to check in and to pray with students. We would love the opportunity to encourage them to walk with Jesus closely in this season, so that when this season comes to a close, they can look back at the growth that took place.

In addition to making phone calls, we want to use our website and social media platforms as a hub for engaging content.

Here’s what you can expect to see on our website, as well as on Instagram and Facebook.
