I want a hydrangea hedge. I’ve just come back from a visit with family in DC and those hedges made me stop and REJOICE. The flowers are amazing. I cannot decide if it is the vivid color, enormous bloom, or ruffle-ly look that makes me so drawn to that flower. I imagine it is all of those characteristics – as I want them all! Oftentimes a little raw beauty is a necessity to the soul. I feel I need a hydrangea hedge as a part of every day. I want a hydrangea hedge.

The reality is I am not a consistent gardener. I rush through the process. I start with big ideas and lots of energy in the planting stage but I am not faithful to water, to maintain growth. The vegetation that does best in my realm is the weed as it is not dependent upon my consistent care. I need my neighbor to plant the hedge and to maintain it where I can see it and enjoy. I would have to become more intentional as a gardener to be surrounded by hydrangea.

I wish that everyone in this small garden of women’s ministry blog readers had a hydrangea hedge. I’ve learned over the years that much of women’s ministry is simply an attempt to add a little beauty to the lives that cross our path. We attempt to do that through inspirational music at events, incredible testimonies on worship nights, loving fellowship, good stories through movie nights, and stunningly gorgeous Biblical truth in studies.  Beauty is a grand glimpse into God.

Believers have the responsibility of representing His beauty as we purpose to bear His image fully on this earth. That doesn’t mean more makeup but more mercy. We reflect him through confessing with our mouths that He is Lord and that He has provided mercy, grace, full forgiveness for any that take refuge in His Son. I’ve had the privilege of sharing this truth with many and to see the countenance of someone that understands His love is to see something even more beautiful than a big hydrangea bloom. Go plant a hedge.

Psalm 2:13 How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!

Psalm 89:14-15 Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Loving kindness and truth go before You. How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O Lord, they walk in the light of Your countenance.
