I ate little bugs

By Jodie Montgomery

While I social distance, I need to be cautious of the dangers at my home. The health care professionals do not need me showing up in the ER because I ate some little bugs.

I have a cute container with a seasonal finial (currently an Easter basket) and holders for three items that I keep on my kitchen counter. I usually have peanuts, something chocolate, and something random in the three holders. I had received some chocolates that are not quite as wrapped up as any I have used before and unbeknownst to me I had companions eating them with me. I’m not slow at eating chocolates or the pistachios also in the infected container so it was several bites before I noticed my companions.

I read on social media where someone posted that being in a pandemic is being asked to simply stay at home and be safe. Remember when there is war, you are asked to leave your family and live without a couch and fight. Surely, we can serve one another through social distancing. I took these words as directive and had been purposing to not get snake bitten in my yard; not OD on oatmeal raisin cookies (I’ve baked over ten dozen), not fall from me doing goofy things in my home, and stay rested and hydrated. My health helps my nation. Now I had eaten countless little bugs. Was this life threatening? Does anyone care?

I’m reminded that in Eden there were only two people and God cared. Seems the Creator values humankind. I’m thankful and amazed. At home, in my garden, my imperfections are quite evident. Yet, I am loved. You are loved….dearly.

Leviticus 19:24 The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God.

Zechariah 3:17 The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.

Romans 8:38-39  For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
