Trying to Help

By Jodie Montgomery

3 John 3-4 For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth. I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.

In times of hardship, we discover what we really believe. Our independence is revealed as frail. When we are clearly not in control and we realize our limitations, can we still walk in His peace and experience contentment in all circumstances? How do we help one another to continue to walk in truth?

I purposed during the pandemic to take an encouraging word online. The Women’s Ministry moved up some Pop Up Scriptures that seemed particularly relevant and developed Sanity Check through zoom calls. I was hearing from enough women to know that some people were struggling with anxiety and some were feeling isolated and many just wanted to make the most of this time of separation to gather around His Word. Some in our groups bowed out of group. Their homes had to shift to focus on big changes within, some just didn’t do the online options. After numerous zoom calls and hearing many encouraging words, I only regret that many just haven’t taken the opportunity to join in. I’d like the privilege of encouraging more. I’ve been encouraged through these online gatherings.

With that in mind, here is the information on joining our Pop Up Scripture or Sanity Check zoom calls. If you do not zoom then you may access the recordings from these events on a public google drive:

When there are obstacles to gathering together then we surmount the obstacles. We get more direct in our communication and open about our concerns. Even if you attend a call simply to listen, there is comfort for those seeking a group. Your presence matters.

I realize that when I am in a funk, it is a help to not isolate, to remember there is a bigger world than my little realm. I know when I am simply choosing to be anxious or bummed rather than to confess that anxiety and disappointment and move on. We do need time to grieve if that is the situation, but sometimes we act like we are grieving when really no loss has occurred. I’m just in a funk. I’m created for community and for His truth. Many have commented on how much they appreciate the devotionals from the pastors at this time. Time in His word is a comfort, encouragement, and good directive. Let’s extend those discussions. People are preparing a good word and making themselves available through calls and online opportunities like never before. I long for these connections to bless your home too.
