Heartfelt Continues

By Jodie Montgomery

I sat in the circle, looking at the ladies around me, enjoying the mix of ages and life-stages. The moments of shared concerns, life application based on His Word, and laughter are precious. I think we need one another.

I’m thankful for our team of four “Moms.”  Through Heartfelt, a monthly gathering of older ladies with younger women – mainly with children in the home, we “Moms” have the privilege of sharing the Gospel as our basis for hope in the day to day. There are 12 “Sisters” in the circle, each an overcomer and an influencer particularly in their homes. Our group is bigger than most, that’s why we are in a circle using trays to hold our dinner rather than at the dining room table. We are very informal although we have an order in the meal and the devotion time. We have an order to be intentional in edifying one another.

We have walked through a lot of life’s angst with one another: an adoption that dragged on for years, marital expectations, friendship confusion, fears, the value of family, the frustration of interruptions, parenting, more parenting. We represent children that are very different from one another. Some have educational struggles, some physical limitations, and some rebel against the values we see as life-giving.

Each month, the Moms think about a little gift that will convey to these sisters that they are loved and life has its moments of thoughtful caring. We try and tie into themes for each month of gatherings. We make meals that stress the importance of taking time to celebrate His goodness in one another. (I cook-I thought I’d forgotten how to cook.) We model sacrificial love. We hope our group knows that we are available outside the monthly gatherings. We are available as mentors and prayer partners.

There are new Moms joining us for the Heartfelt 2023-24 year, new Sisters as well. Growth is another answer to prayer. I don’t know who is most thankful for the ministry; at the year-end leader appreciation brunch, the Moms expressed great joy in serving and developing relationships. Some have experienced the healing of being valued as a follower of Christ. Something they may not have experienced in their own family. There is a heartfelt remnant that aligns with Him as Good Shepherd and with one another as His sheep.

Titus 3:3-5 “Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.”
