IBC Women’s Ministry Blog – June 18, 2020

“Ignorance must be a fun place to live; my parents seem to vacation there year-round.”
― Nenia Campbell

I overheard someone saying how younger people are much more open to talk about racism and current events than their parents. I would like to think that I do not prefer ignorance. But in many areas, I do. I took a few electrical engineering classes but I prefer ignorantly flipping a switch. I am content not seeing my colonoscopy photos. I really don’t want to know how many germs I’m exposed to daily. Some say ignorance is bliss.

Ignorance is not bliss when it involves injustice. I have witnessed women gloriously come into the light after uncovering abuse. I have seen families healed, generational sin cut off, broken hearts uplifted by the knowledge of God and repentance. His character in us bears life. Ignorance of His precepts destroys.

So in regards to racism, I am going to do some research. I am going to review church history and find out what is worth repeating and what is not. I am going to have discussions with friends, family, and my sisters in Christ. I’m uncomfortable in my ignorance. You are welcome to join me. I’ve ordered the book “The Color of Compromise” by Jemar Tisby (highly recommended by a number of pastors) and I am committing to read the book by July 2. On July 2 at 10 am, there will be a zoom call to discuss the book. Email me at if you would like to have the link to join the call. My hope is to grow up, to learn more about my fellow sojourners on this planet, and to have ears to hear where my love of God and my neighbor may be too ignorant.

Ephesians 4:17-19 So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.
