Early

It’s 4:41 am. I’m in the shower. I’m wondering how I got here. I feel yuck. My husband is upbeat. He’s already directed Siri to play Zach Williams. Siri landed on Rise Up (Lazarus). How ironic. Everything is too loud for me.

This week my husband is still struggling with a bout of shingles. His mom is dying and so we are heading to the airport. He will fly away. I will pray. Lord, give this dear man a lucid final moment with his mom that will be of eternal value. How did we get here?

I don’t mind the days being long and the years being short. I have been so blessed through all the years, in the highs and lows. God is faithful. God rescues. I know many are up by 4:41 am every morning. Ugh. I realize I should go to bed earlier. I realize He mandates rest and I resist.

Sometimes you just need to go to the Psalms. Let the psalmist give voice to your cries. I choose Psalm 35 today. He is my joy. My husband may be mourning his mother soon. They were distant in life; may they be united in the kingdom.

Psalm 35:2 “Take hold of buckler and shield and rise up as my help.”

PS: My husband arrived a couple hours after his mom passed. He sat with her body and sang more hymns to her, something he had done a few months ago. She looked peaceful. We trust in His timing and hope in His merciful care.
