Flowers Fall but the Word Endures

By Allison McCoy

Last week I mentioned the Super Bloom of California and likened it to how the Word of God blooms in us, taking root and changing us from the inside out. Well, I checked, the California Super Bloom is gone. It only lasted about a month. Who knows when the conditions will be right again to see such a transformation to the California landscape.

However, the Word of God and its power will not perish, the Church will last, the Gospel will endure along with God’s people. Who needs to hear that reality in the midst of an ever-changing world, an unsettling political landscape, a scary diagnosis, a volatile economy, and the list goes on!

1 Peter 1:22-24 -Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heart, since you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable, through the living and abiding word of God; for
“ALL FLESH IS LIKE GRASS,
AND ALL ITS GLORY LIKE THE FLOWER OF GRASS.
THE GRASS WITHERS,
AND THE FLOWER FALLS,
BUT THE WORD OF THE LORD REMAINS FOREVER.”
And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

As I’ve studied the book of Acts this spring, I have been repeatedly reminded that the transformational power of God’s Word cannot be thwarted. He continues to empower His people today to herald the good news, to be conformed to His character and to reflect Him in our conduct.

We do this by allowing the living, transformational Word of God to abide in us – to plant it in our minds & hearts so that it can take root and flourish there.

Yes, the spring Bible study season is finished but Summer is coming. Register today for “Jesus & Women,” a seven-week study that will give us a new perspective on the women of Jesus’ day and His interactions with them. Classes begin the week of June 12. Free Kids Kare available.
