Learning to Live as Rivers

By Lyn Casseday
With Jodie Montgomery

This year, I had a first! After the summer study,
women sent blogs on what they learned with the hope of passing on the encouragement they received from time in His Word.

I’m honoring their gumption!

This summer I completed the “Jesus & Women” Bible study at Idlewild. I was so very blessed by this study. Kristi McLelland, the author and teacher, encouraged us to study the first century women and how Jesus interacted with them. He interacts with us the same way in this current century.

This challenge was repeated each week: To live as rivers not as lakes. Rivers are living and moving forward and have a destination. Lakes, though still and beautiful, are not moving and can become stagnant. I shared my notes with my dear brunch friend and showed her the prayer shawl I had ordered. She got excited about the study, and ordered her own copy of the book off Amazon.

We learned about tear jars and Psalm 56:8 promises us: “You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in your bottle. Are they not in your book?”

My friend greeted me in church several weeks later and gave me my own tear jar that she had made for me. I since have learned that her river has become a waterfall as she has distributed multiple copies of the workbook and beautiful tear jars. I have told her this tear jar is one of my treasures, that I will forever carry with me. I am so touched by her friendship and love.

Studying the Bible with friends and learning to love Jesus more and more has greatly changed my life.
