Insulated in Prayer

Insulated in Prayer

“[Jesus] took Peter, John and James with him and went up onto a mountain to pray.” (Luke 9:28)

Jesus insulated himself in prayer. He was able to shut out interruptions. In Luke 9:18-43 great things progressed out of His prayer times. As Jesus prayed in verse 18, the disciples heard the Holy Spirit and identified Jesus as the Christ. Enlisting Peter, John and James for prayer with Him on a mountain resulted in His transfiguration. Jesus was seen in His glory and in the glorious presence of Moses and Elijah. Coming down from the glorious mountain and prayer experience, Jesus healed a boy with an evil spirit. In Mark 9:29, Jesus said, “’This kind can come out only by prayer.’”

How difficult is it for you to get alone with God to pray? Ask the Lord to help you have insulated prayer times. We can pray on all occasions but should set apart prayer times that are unhindered and uninterrupted. Don Miller, a retired pastor and faithful prayer warrior, is now in the heavenly presence of Jesus. He said, “Be insulated in prayer….When I pray, I don’t hear a dog barking or cars in the street. It’s just the Father and me. He hears me and I hear him.”

Luke 9 shows that insulated prayer can identify Jesus, reveal Him in His glory and even set people free from demonic oppression. Obedient prayer enhances our loving fellowship with the Father. John 14:23 says, “Jesus replied, ‘If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.’” Faithful prayer benefits the body of Christ. Ephesians 6:18b says, “…keep on praying for all the saints.”

Don Miller and his wife Libby began to pray together every day for one hour from 6-7:00 am. When consistent and flourishing at that time, they felt the need for more time in prayer and added an hour. They began to pray from 5-7:00. Eventually they expanded their prayer times to 3 hours a day from 4-7:00.

When is God guiding you to pray? It’s ok to start small and to grow into consistency. You can commit to praying within a one hour slot each week on the Watchman prayer wall at idlewild.org/pray. As you are insulated with God in prayer, may you know His sweet fellowship and His glory.
