Local Missions

As our mission statement says “to reach Tampa Bay and beyond for Christ,” our mission work begins right here in the Tampa Bay area with many different projects to choose from. Don’t think that you have to go somewhere else to do missions. Missions is a lifestyle and we want to encourage you to be “on mission” everyday in your home, neighborhood, school, workplace and community. The advantage of local mission work is that you can be involved more for a longer amount of time than you can be with a short term trip far away from home. Check out these opportunities that Idlewild On Mission offers close to home:

Hope Street

Hope Street, a not-for-profit organization based in Sulphur Springs, was founded by Pastor Ken Whitten and other members of Idlewild. It’s mission is to help the people in Sulphur Springs realize their full potential in Christ Jesus. Volunteer opportunities include:

  • Adopt-a-Block (1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm)
  • GED (weekdays)
  • Evening Reporting Center (weekdays)

If you are interested in getting involved contact us for more information. 813-264-8743

Cafe on the Go

Idlewild’s Cafe on the Go is a relational outreach ministry designed to make connections with our community. Any Idlewild member can request the Cafe visit their workplace, school, neighborhood, or community organization. Trained Baristas will prepare gourmet coffee drinks and help you distribute them for FREE! Every cup, served with the love of Jesus Christ, comes with an invitation for a free coffee on campus at Idlewild and an opportunity to hear the Gospel. Volunteers are needed to drive the Cafe trailer and serve the gourmet drinks. No coffee experience is required and training is provided.

Just Love

Make a difference by investing in the lives of children at Just Elementary School. If you are in an Adult Bible Fellowship Class or Small Group at Idlewild, volunteer to connect your class with JUST by becoming a homeroom mom or dad. Opportunities include:

  • Just Mentor: Mentoring a student for one hour each week.
  • Just Connect: Adopt a homeroom and be the liaison between your class and a teacher.
  • Just Reward: Short-term volunteer opportunities.

Good Night Club

Night Light Readers connect with foster children by reading to them before bedtime in order to bring them true security, the security found through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Volunteers are needed to serve two weeknights a month, or one Saturday a month.

Hope Restored

We restore human trafficking victims by integrating them back into society and giving them the spiritual tools to be successful. We need volunteers to serve as Support Families, Life Coaches, and Mentors.

Proclaim is Idlewild’s way of equipping its members to share the gospel and provide an intentional time to engage the community. Fall Semester will begin on Sunday 08/21/16 in room E-209 at 4:30 pm. Evangelizing teams will start meeting on Monday 08/22 at the Mission’s Café at 6:30 pm.  Childcare is provided.

Idlewild en Español

Our Hispanic church meets on Sundays at 12:30 p.m. in Hall 1 of the Student Ministry Building. Adult Bible Fellowship classes meet at 11:00 a.m. Opportunities: Pray for your Hispanic friends, neighbors, co-workers, etc. Give them Hispanic gospel tracts (available in the Missions Café). Invite them to the Hispanic services or share Christ with them if you speak Spanish or arrange a visit by the Hispanic Church evangelism ministry team.

Spanish as a Second Language

This ministry exists to equip you to learn Conversational Spanish, with the purpose of helping you serve on mission trips to Spanish-speaking countries. Class dialogue and conversations are mission oriented. Classes meet on Mondays, 6:30-8:30 p.m., in our Adult Ministry Building. Childcare is provided.

Angel Tree

The Angel Tree Program is a ministry to the children of incarcerated parents. Our volunteers purchase and deliver gifts to the children the week before Christmas on behalf of their parents who are in jail. This ministry gives us the opportunity to bring some joy to the family and opens up the opportunity to share the Gospel.

One Day

Serve on one of many local mission projects available on ONE DAY.  Come and enjoy a day of service twice a year and show love to your neighbors in Tampa Bay.

Disaster Relief

Disaster Relief gives “A cup of cold water in Jesus’ name” in the aftermath of disasters. We meet the urgent needs of those that are hurting through our training in: child care, feeding unit, communications, spiritual care, cleanup and recovery, or water purification. We serve shoulder to shoulder, providing support to disaster victims, while spreading the message about our love for Jesus Christ.

English as a Second Language

We seek to serve all nationalities and ethnic groups in our city. Students receive free instruction in conversational English and are introduced to the truth of scripture through word and song. Volunteer teachers and assistants are needed to teach Thursday evenings during spring and fall semesters while Three-Day Mission Teams are being assembled for summer outreach to various communities in Tampa.

Out Give

We believe that neighbors can and should help neighbors get back on their feet.  If you’d like to help feed hungry children on your own community, we welcome you to partner with us in our OUT GIVE event.
On Thanksgiving morning, you will have the opportunity to help 800 families in the Tampa Bay area and most importantly they will hear about the love of Jesus through a Gospel presentation.

Please register to donate a voucher or to deliver boxes to the families in need.
