National Day of Prayer 2020

National Day of Prayer 2020

“Praying God’s glory across the earth,” is the theme of the 2020 National Day of Prayer. Habakkuk 2:14 says, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.”

This year that National Day of Prayer falls when much of the nation and world are impacted by the Corona virus. What a time to pray that the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as He promised in Habakkuk’s day, and as so many people are looking to God and His church for answers. After praying for a given matter for a season, the Spirit sometimes leads us to give thanks because He has heard our prayers and will answer. What has God placed on your heart to pray? As those praying in the temple in the Old Testament, “hold onto the horns of the altar” and pray until God tells you it is time to give thanks. Also pray that God’s glory will spread across the earth as vastly and completely “as the waters cover the sea.”

You may be inclined to pray these thoughts with Chuck Swindoll from Hope Again.

“Lord….Give us grace to match our trials. Give us a sense of hope and purpose beyond our pain. And give us fresh assurance that we’re not alone, that Your plan has not been aborted though our suffering intensifies. Help those of us who are on our feet right now to maintain a compassion for those who aren’t. Give us a word of encouragement for others living in a world of hurt. Let us never forget that every jolt in this rugged journey from earth to heaven is a reminder that we’re on the right road. I ask this in the compassionate name of the Man of Sorrows who was acquainted with grief. Amen.”

Please pray for government leaders asking God to help them to walk in His wisdom and virtue and to strengthen them in courage and faithfulness for the challenges they face. Pray that godly leaders will be elected in the coming election, as well.  Pray, especially, for the endurance, encouragement and safety of believers who are being persecuted around the world as never before.

Pray for America that the Holy Spirit would bring revival, repentance and holy living in the church. Pray that He would deepen relationships with Himself through a greater knowledge, understanding and intentional application of the Word of God. Pray for families to be renewed with strong marriages and children trained according to Biblical principles. Pray for effective, Spirit-filled, preaching of the Bible and for a bold and loving sharing of the faith. Pray that the government and culture would be impacted and redeemed through the prayers, witness, lifestyle and activity of believers in Christ Jesus.
