Prayers in God’s Own Words

Prayers in God’s Own Words

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:16-17)

Daniel Henderson said, “…the best way to talk to God is in His own words. When we pray the Word of God, we embrace the will of God. The intimate and intense attention to the truth of the Word produces real worship-based prayer and all its benefits.”

During this unusual time of the Corona Virus I am sure that you are turning to God in prayer. It has been interesting that this unplanned season of sickness and hunkering down has coincided with our already scheduled 21 days of prayer in which we have been using, HANDBOOK TO PRAYER – Praying Scripture Back to God, by Ken Boa as a prayer resource.

Perhaps you have received a copy of this book by mail with over three months of Scripture devotions to pray to God, or maybe you have been praying from the first 21 days of the first month of the Daily Prayer Guide from this book which has been available a day at a time on the prayer web page at idlewild.org/prayer.

One thing that has truly stood out in this past year of study is that our prayers are enhanced, strengthened, motivated and more deeply personal between us and God when we are immersed in the scriptures. I pray that God will take you deeper in your prayers as you continue to pray the scriptures back to God as we lead into the Easter weekend and throughout the year.

Also, May 7 is less than a month after Easter, and it is the National Day of Prayer. Ken Boa is our guest speaker for the second National Day of Prayer Breakfast at Idlewild. As we advance through the coming weeks, watch for announcements regarding registrations or cancellations for this event. Whether we are able to gather or not, we can join in prayer on this special designated day of prayer.

I am praying for you, and I know you will faithfully “talk to God in His own words,” and find direction and peace, and enjoy fellowship with the person and in the presence of Jesus as we pray the Scriptures back to God.
