Prayers of Faith

Prayers of Faith

These are days to pray in faith! Do not lose heart. Paul wrote, “Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained.… if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” (2 Tim. 2:8-9, 13) Even if we will lose faith, he will still be faithful to us because the Holy Spirit dwells in us, and He cannot be unfaithful to Himself; so, have faith! Pray! He continues to be faithful to us.

Hebrews 12:2a, 3, tells us to “…fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith… consider him…so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”  Jesus gave us our faith. Don’t allow cultural shifts, moral decay, changing times, corrupted governments and leadership, generational divide, fear and worry, concerns of pandemics, inflation, shortages, wars and rumors of wars, Biblical illiteracy, congregational apathy, and self-focus to erode the precious faith given by Jesus through the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. Stay focused on Jesus. Romans exhorts that “…we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. [And] “…nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us form the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (8:37b, 39b)

So, “…be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power…. take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one…. Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests….be alert and keep on praying for all the saints.” (Ephesians 6:10, 16b, 18) We are in Christ Jesus who is our armor. Be strengthened in faith and in prayer.

“Faith needs a life of prayer for its full growth…. There can be no true prayer without faith; some measure of faith must precede prayer. And yet prayer is also the way to more faith; there can be no higher degrees of faith except through much prayer.” Andrew Murray expressed this and also, “A heart full of God has power for the prayer of faith.” J. C. Ryle wrote, “The first act of faith will be to speak to God…. Prayer is to faith what breathing is to life”, and “To be prayerless is to be without God, without Christ, without grace, without hope and without heaven.” Daniel Henderson shared, “Prayer is essentially depending on God.” From Andrew Bonar, “…there is no hope but in prayer. Herein lies the church’s power against the world.”

I am praying that the shifting away from God and His truth in our churches and nation will move us to importunate prayer, to focus on Jesus and to grow in our faith in Him.
