01 Nov Prayers of Providence and Deliverance
William Bradford’s History of Plymouth Plantation has recorded the Pilgrims’ journey to America, and their life in their new settlement. It gives accounts of God’s providence and miracles that flowed from His loving kindness and His sovereign purposes at work in their lives.
Here the Pilgrims gave praise after God delivered them from attack. Even though their garments had been pierced with arrows, none of them had any wounds or injury.
“Thus it pleased God to vanquish their enemies, and give them deliverance; and by His special providence so to dispose that not one of them was hit, though the arrows came close to them, on every side, and some of their coats which were hung up in the barricade were shot through and through. Afterwards they gave God solemn thanks and praise for their deliverance….”
God blessed them through many hardships and challenges including meeting the need for food for survival. We worship the same God of providence and deliverance, and give thanks for His working and provision in our lives and for the heritage of the same throughout history.
As we offer thanks to the Father, the Son – Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, we can also praise Him for who He is as David did when the people contributed toward the building of the future temple in Jerusalem.
“David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, ‘Praise be to you, O LORD, God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.’” (1 Chronicles 29:10-13)
Take inventory of God’s presence, provisions, protection, fellowship and leading in your life and worship Him in prayer.
