Seismic Prayer (Acts 4:31)

Seismic Prayer (Acts 4:31)

“…After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.” (Acts 4:31)

God answers prayers.

The believers were praying after the disciples healed a man, preached the gospel, and were released after being threatened by the rulers (Acts 3-4). They asked God to enable them to speak His word with great boldness. (4:29)

God answered their prayers as He caused a shaking of their meeting place. He revealed His presence and power. With the shaking of the meeting place, they were filled with the Holy Spirt and they spoke the word of God boldly. The Holy Spirt made a spectacular entrance into the room, and into the spirits or hearts of the believers.

The Holy Spirit did not have to shake the room, but for the young church, the external, physical display of power would demonstrate that there was also an internal spiritual empowerment. If the Holy Spirit of God could shake the room, He could also fill the believers with His presence and power resulting in joyful boldness to speak the word of God. The shaking of the meeting place made a lasting impression. The filling of the Holy Spirit released power in the believers and brought eternal salvation for those who received the word of God.

Prayer doesn’t always cause the ground to shake physically, but it should move or shift our hearts spiritually toward Jesus, and lead to bold speaking of the enduring Word of God.

As Idlewild completes 21 days of prayer leading to revival services Feb. 24-27, call out to God anticipating the presence of the Holy Spirit and His seismic activity in and through those who believe.

Brethren, we have met to worship and adore the Lord our God;

Will you Pray with all your power, while we try to preach the Word?

All is vain unless the Spirit of the Holy One comes down;

Brethren, pray, and holy manna will be showered all around.”
