Thanksgiving in God’s Presence

Thanksgiving in God’s Presence

“I shall wash my hands in innocence, And I will go about your altar, O LORD, That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving And declare all your wonders. O LORD, I love the habitation of your house And the place where your glory dwells. (Psalm 26:6-8)

In times of trouble, be encouraged by your daily pattern of thanksgiving and relationship with the LORD expressed in worship. When trouble came for David he renewed his mind by expressing in prayer to the LORD that he regularly walked in purity through cleansing in the tabernacle. He washed at the laver, and sacrificed at the altar in obedience, and he enjoyed the forgiveness of God.

These practices would have been empty if they were not infused with his spiritual worship of thanksgiving and praise. David couldn’t contain himself in worship. He thrust himself into worship; spirit, soul, and body, as he walked about the altar proclaiming God in thanksgiving with a grateful heart for his life and forgiveness, and he praised God by declaring or repeating the great wonders of who He is and what He does.

David loved the tabernacle of God, but not just the structure or design. David loved the habitation. He loved the dwelling presence of the LORD. The LORD chose to tabernacle, to dwell, by manifesting His Shekinah Glory in the form of a cloud in the most holy place.

David exulted in the presence of the LORD as he spiritually worshiped in thanksgiving and praise through the ceremonies prescribed for his people. David was fulfilled as he encountered the glory of God. His daily practice and relationship gave him great stability and confidence in trouble and battle.

Your daily thanksgiving in worship and prayer will strengthen you in turbulent times. The temple of God, literally the most holy place, is now each individual believer in Christ ( 1 Cor. 6:19), and the gathering of believers (1 Cor. 3:16)

During these turbulent days, exult in the habitation of the Holy Spirit in believers individually and corporately through thanksgiving and praise in prayer. He will meet your need. He will answer your prayers. Give thanks for the regathering to fellowship and worship together as His glory is revealed in the preaching and teaching of the Word of God.

Regarding the holiday of Thanksgiving, remember that the Pilgrims endured great hardships and gave thanks to God. The governor of Plymouth, William Bradford, gave this account, “And thus they found the LORD to be with them in all their ways, for which let His Holy Name have the Praise forever, to all posterity.”
