You Can Pray (James 5:17-18)

You Can Pray (James 5:17-18)

Prayer is for every believer.

Every believer should be empowered and blessed through prayer. Every believer gets to pray. In prayer we worship and fellowship with God. In prayer we listen to God, we pray for others and we earnestly call on the Lord in every situation. Ephesians 6:18 says “…pray in the Spirit on all occasions  with all kind of prayers and requests.”  Leonard Ravenhill said, “No man is greater than his prayer life.”

James says in 5:13, when we are in trouble, when we are sick and when we are happy that we should pray and worship. In this passage he gives a prayerful prescription for sickness which includes prayer and anointing with the elders of the church, as well as, confession of sins to each other. The promise connected with these confessions and prayers is, “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” (5:16b)

The backbone of this passage is the example of the prayers of Elijah. He was just a normal man and yet his prayers regarding rain were answered.

Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.” (James 5:17-18)

Take time to pray and call on the Lord. No matter who you are, what age, what level of maturity, what position in life, God will hear you. He will open the heavens and he will answer.
